INNSBRUCK, 16 January 2012 - Mi JANG (KOR) won her second Gold medal of the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in the Women's 1500m at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval on Monday.
The Korean added to Gold she clinched in the Women’s 500m on Saturday by skating the 1500m in a time of 2 minutes, 08.17 seconds. She was too fast for the rest of the field, with Sanneke DE NEELING (NED) her nearest challenger, whose time of 2:09.54 secured the Silver medal. The Bronze medal went to Sumire KIKUCHI (JPN) in a time of 2:11.33.
China proved its prowess in the Men's 1500m Speed Skating on Monday, with Fan YANG (CHN) grabbing Gold and An LIU (CHN) collecting the Silver medal. In a superb race at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, YANG posted a time of 1 minute, 54.20 seconds, skating more than six seconds quicker than his teammate.
Impressive Austria goalkeeper Paula Camilla MARCHHART made 29 saves as the host nation beat Germany 5-2 on Monday to clinch a spot in the Women's Ice Hockey Semifinal at the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games. With its third straight victory, which came two days after the 100th anniversary of its nation's Ice Hockey Federation, Austria is in first place in the standings with nine points.
The score was tied at 2-2 after the first period and MARCHHART made 20 crucial saves over the final two periods to provide the basis for Austria's triumph.
