Pew pushes for swift, decisive action to protect Atlantic bluefin tuna and sharks as International Commission for the conservation of Atlantic tunas convenes in Paris.

For too long, ICCAT countries have overseen precipitous population declines of bluefin tuna, sharks and other marine species, while illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing threatens any conservation action. Hong Kong Brings Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree to London for Lord Mayor's Show

 

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, is taking part in the London Lord Mayor's Show for the sixth year running. With a theme of Health, Wealth and Happiness, the office's float at the show includes a replica of the Lam Tsuen wishing tree.

People along the route of the two-mile long parade will be invited to throw specially-made 'wishes' at the tree, in the hope that they will stay in the branches so that the wishes will come true. The float will be preceded by the three gods of Money, Long Life and Good Fortune, and accompanied by a dragon dance and Kung Fu artists. More ...

The number of visitors to the Shanghai World Expo 2010 topped 70 million Sunday, 24 November, meeting organisers' expectations, according to an announcement on the official Expo website.

Having received 70 million visitors in 177days, World Expo 2010, Shanghai China is now entering its last week of operation. The closing ceremony will be held on next Sunday,31 October. Before the weekend, the organiser of Expo Shanghai will release several VNRs and present a review of the event, which will focus on visitors, pavilions, ceremonies and performances respectively.  More ...

UN Food and Agriculture Organisation Director-General Jacques Diouf Travels to Pakistan

 

The head of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says farmers in Pakistan should have sufficient crops to harvest this year, despite floods which devastated vast swathes of the country in the past three months.

Speaking at an Islamabad press conference, FAO chief Jacques Diouf said that in many parts of Pakistan flood waters had receded enough to allow farmers to receive seeds and plan replacement crops.  More ...
